Dense ferns, wild brush, and young saplings made this flat wooded area impossible to enjoy. We created a wide, inviting nature trail loop with preserved pine and birch trees lining both sides. Now used by the community year-round.
A local land trust wanted to create public access trails through a 20-acre wooded preserve, but the vegetation was too dense for pedestrian use. They needed a wide, ADA-accessible loop trail that would be welcoming to families, dog walkers, and elderly community members.
We created an 8-foot wide trail (meeting ADA width requirements) in a 1.2-mile loop configuration. The extra width accommodates two-way foot traffic and wheelchair access on the flatter sections. We preserved all pine and birch trees along the route to create a natural canopy corridor.
The community now has a beautiful 1.2-mile trail loop used year-round for walking, jogging, dog walking, and nature education. The land trust reports over 50 visitors per day during peak season. The trail has become a valued community asset that required just 3 days of mulching to create.
