Colonial Estate Grounds Restoration

Project Overview

Decades of neglect had buried the historic stone walls and turned this grand colonial estate's grounds into an impenetrable thicket. We restored the park-like woodland setting these estates were designed to have, exposing every stone wall and clearing every sight line.

The Challenge

This historic Kennebunkport estate had been partially neglected for over 20 years. The original landscape design included stone walls, cleared woodland paths, and curated sight lines that had all been consumed by aggressive vegetation. The property looked abandoned despite the grand colonial home.

Our Solution

Working from historic photos provided by the homeowner, we recreated the original park-like setting by clearing all understory growth while preserving the mature canopy trees. We exposed 380 feet of buried stone walls and re-established the original sight lines from the home to key landscape features.

The Result

The estate now looks as it was originally designed: a grand colonial home set within manicured woodland grounds with exposed stone walls and clear sight lines. The transformation took 2 days and restored decades of lost character to this historic property.
